# List block children

> Read a block's children. With a document ID, returns the top-level blocks of its content.

Reads a block's direct children. With a document ID, returns the top-level blocks of its content. For a block with `has_children: true`, call again with its ID. A subpage with no card in the content doesn't appear in the list.

**Authorization** `string` *required*

`Bearer <token>`. See [Tokens](https://developers.bottari.ai/auth/tokens.md).

**Bottari-Version** `string`

Optional. Only `2026-03-11` is accepted. Without it, the current version is used. A different value returns 400.

**id** `string` *required*

A document ID or block ID.

**page\_size** `number` (default: 100)

1 to 100.

**start\_cursor** `string`

`next_cursor` from the previous response. It's the ID of the first block in the next set.

**results** `object[]`

Block objects. See [Retrieve a block](https://developers.bottari.ai/api-reference/blocks/retrieve.md).

**next\_cursor** `string | null`

The cursor for the next set.

**has\_more** `boolean`

`true` if there's more.

**type** `string`

Always `block`.

## Read all content

Call this endpoint with the document ID, then call it again for each block with `has_children: true`. This sends one request for each block with children. If rate limits are a concern, use [Retrieve as Markdown](https://developers.bottari.ai/api-reference/pages/markdown.md).

## Errors

| Status | `code` | Cause |
| - | - | - |
| 400 | `validation_error` | `page_size` is wrong, or `start_cursor` isn't the ID of a child of this block. |
| 404 | `object_not_found` | The block doesn't exist, or the integration can't read it. Children of trashed documents and databases also return 404. |
