# Retrieve a comment

> Read one comment or reply, including deleted ones.

Reads one comment or reply. Requires **Read comments**. The fields are the same as in [List comments](https://developers.bottari.ai/api-reference/comments/list.md#comment-object).

**Authorization** `string` *required*

`Bearer <token>`. See [Tokens](https://developers.bottari.ai/auth/tokens.md).

**Bottari-Version** `string`

Optional. Only `2026-03-11` is accepted. Without it, the current version is used. A different value returns 400.

**id** `string` *required*

The comment ID. You can pass `entity.id` from a `comment.*` event as is.

## Response by state

| Comment | Response |
| - | - |
| Deleted | 200 with `rich_text: []` and `original_content_deleted: true`. `parent` is the value from before deletion. |
| Edited | The new text. `last_edited_time` differs from `created_time`. Both are truncated to the minute, so an edit within a minute can show the same value. |
| Resolved | Reads normally. No field shows that it's resolved. |
| Block is gone | Has the text, with `original_content_deleted: true`. |
| On a trashed row | `rich_text: []` and `original_content_deleted: true`. |

## Errors

| Status | `code` | Cause |
| - | - | - |
| 403 | `restricted_resource` | **Read comments** is off. |
| 404 | `object_not_found` | The comment doesn't exist, or it's on a document the integration can't read. |
