# Retrieve a database

> Read a database object. Property definitions are on the data source.

Reads a database's name, parent, icon, and cover. For property definitions, use [Retrieve a data source](https://developers.bottari.ai/api-reference/data-sources/retrieve.md). A Bottari database always has one data source, with the same ID.

A trashed database can still be read while it's connected, and `in_trash` is `true`.

**Authorization** `string` *required*

`Bearer <token>`. See [Tokens](https://developers.bottari.ai/auth/tokens.md).

**Bottari-Version** `string`

Optional. Only `2026-03-11` is accepted. Without it, the current version is used. A different value returns 400.

**id** `string` *required*

The database ID.

**id** `string`

The database ID.

**title** `object[]`

The name, as rich text items.

**description** `object[]`

The description, as rich text items.

**parent** `object`

`{ "type": "page_id", "page_id": "..." }` for an inline database, otherwise `{ "type": "workspace", "workspace": true }`.

**is\_inline** `boolean`

`true` for an inline database.

**in\_trash** `boolean`

`true` if it's in the trash, including an inline database in a trashed document. An inline database in a row of a trashed database has `false`, while its data source has `true`.

**is\_locked** `boolean`

`true` if it's locked.

**data\_sources** `object[]`

Always one item, whose `id` matches the database ID.

**url** `string | null`

The address that opens it in the app.

**public\_url** `null`

Always `null`.

## Errors

| Status | `code` | Cause |
| - | - | - |
| 404 | `object_not_found` | The database doesn't exist or isn't connected. |

See [Common rules](https://developers.bottari.ai/api-reference/overview.md#errors) for shared errors.
