You can import data into Bottari in the desktop app. The API has no import endpoint.

Import text and Markdown files

Accepted file types are .md, .markdown, .txt, .text, .html, and .htm.
1

Open the import window

Open a document you can edit and select Import in its menu.
2

Choose files

Drag files into the window, or select choose files.
3

Import

Select Continue.
  • You can import up to 10 files at once, each up to 50 MiB.
  • The file name becomes the subpage title, and a card for the subpage is added at the end of the document.
  • A file whose converted content is over 512 KiB isn’t imported.

Import databases from Notion

To import, you need permission to create databases in the space. Guests can’t import. Each person connects with their own account.
1

Open the import window

In the space’s ⋯ menu, select Import from Notion.
2

Connect

Select Connect Notion and allow access in your browser.
3

Choose databases

Choose the databases to import and select Create preview.
4

Check the preview

Check what will be created or updated, and match people who aren’t in your team to a member or guest, or leave them empty.
5

Import

Select Import N databases.
Reading and importing continue if you close the window, and a notification tells you when the preview is ready and when the import finishes. A preview stays available for 24 hours. If you cancel before writing finishes, nothing changes. When an import updates existing copies, canceling removes new databases, but rows already updated stay.

What’s imported

  • Properties and the values of every row
  • Row content, including files
  • Views
  • Relations, formulas, rollups, and sub-items
  • Subpages under rows, and inline databases in row content
To keep a relation, import both databases together or import the other one first. Otherwise, the relation becomes text.

What isn’t imported

  • Comments, page history, and database automations
  • Buttons and verification properties
  • Property types Bottari doesn’t have
  • Form, map, and dashboard views
  • Conditional colors and calculations in views
  • Rollups that can’t be rebuilt, and options past 1,000 in a property
These come in a different form:
  • Place properties become text.
  • Synced blocks keep their content but stop syncing.
  • Blocks Bottari doesn’t have, and files that are too large or can’t be downloaded, stay as links to the source.
The preview and the import result list what was left out or changed.

Import again

There’s no automatic sync. To bring in later changes, import again: choose the database again, or select Import again in Past imports. A source database has one copy in a team, and importing again updates that copy:
  • Rows you haven’t edited in Bottari are updated.
  • New rows, properties, options, and views are added.
  • Rows in the source’s trash move to the trash in Bottari, unless you edited them in Bottari.
  • Rows edited in Bottari and locked rows are left as they are.
  • Rows removed in Bottari aren’t created again.
If the copy is in the trash or was deleted, the import creates a new copy.

Limits

One import can hold up to 50 databases and 20,000 rows. Over that, import the databases in smaller groups. Databases you already imported connect to the next import through relations. An import can take a team over its block limit. The preview shows this and asks you to confirm.

After importing

  • Imported rows, databases, properties, and options get new Bottari IDs. Update any IDs in your code. Importing again keeps the IDs of an existing copy, and a new copy gets new IDs.
  • Integrations don’t get access to imported databases automatically. Connect each database you want to use.
  • Imports don’t run database automations.
  • Some imported changes don’t send webhook events. See When no event is sent.
